Cybersecurity for Energy Delivery Systems Peer Review and Roadmap Milestone Assessment Workshop
August 5-7, 2014
U.S. Department of Energy

About The Meeting:

Join national laboratory researchers, industry partners, and academia for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Cybersecurity for Energy Delivery Systems (CEDS) Peer Review and Roadmap Milestone Assessment Workshop at the Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, VA on August 5-7, 2014. A peer review is a documented, critical evaluation performed by technical experts who are independent of the work being reviewed. The peer review process is an important tool for assessing DOE's portfolio of R&D projects by evaluating its goals, objectives, strategy, productivity, and leadership. The last day of this meeting will focus on exploring the energy sector's progress toward achieving the strategic framework of the 2011 Roadmap to Achieve Energy Delivery Systems Cybersecurity. In addition to learning more about the CEDS portfolio of projects and the Roadmap, this three-day meeting will afford an opportunity for energy sector stakeholders, national laboratory researchers, and the academic community to network.

This meeting will be conducted in two parts:

  • Part 1: The peer review portion of the meeting will take place August 5-6. Reviewers and attendees will have the opportunity to examine nearly 20 DOE CEDS-supported or cost-shared research and development projects that advance the cybersecurity of energy delivery systems. DOE aligns CEDS energy delivery system cybersecurity R&D efforts with the energy sector-led, DOE-facilitated, strategic framework presented in the 2011 Roadmap to Achieve Energy Delivery Systems Cybersecurity. The vision of the Roadmap is that resilient energy delivery systems are designed, installed, operated, and maintained to survive a cyber-incident while sustaining critical functions. The Roadmap, with its energy sector-led strategy and vision, is the outcome of a public-private partnership that engaged all energy sector stakeholders. We encourage all energy sector stakeholders to attend this meeting and hear first-hand about forthcoming CEDS solutions, provide feedback to CEDS program managers, and network with experts from industry, academia, and national laboratories.
    • Poster Session/Networking: A poster session and reception will take place immediately following the peer review on August 6. Please join us for this opportunity to network and learn more information about CEDS-funded R&D projects. Guests arriving on August 6 for Part 2 are welcome to join!
  • Part 2: The Roadmap Milestone Assessment Workshop will take place at the same location on August 7. This workshop will explore the energy sector's progress toward achieving the specific milestones in the Roadmap to Achieve Energy Delivery Systems Cybersecurity. The Roadmap provides a strategic framework consisting of near-, mid-, and long-term milestones to achieve the energy sector's vision. As energy sector threats, technologies, and practices continue to evolve, this workshop will investigate any gaps in this strategic framework that should be considered. Preliminary results collected from a variety of energy sector stakeholders prior to this workshop will also be shared. All information collected during the workshop will be compiled into a Roadmap Milestone Assessment Report for future consideration. Your input is extremely important to understanding the current state of energy sector cybersecurity. Please join us for this one day workshop, immediately following the two-day CEDS Peer Review. The workshop will conclude at approximately 4:00 PM ET on August 7.
